Our new Gavotte BFL worsted yarn

Meet Gavotte! The newest yarn in the Sweet Paprika family, Gavotte is a non-superwash BFL wool yarn in a light worsted weight. It's the big sister to Cadenza (our sport weight BFL) and comes in the same range of colours, plus a few new ones we've added to round out the palette.

Colours clockwise from top left: Denim, Milkweed, Kale, Stratus

About the Yarn

Gavotte is a 4-ply yarn with a fairly dense and smooth construction. It has great stitch definition, perfect for showing off cables or other textured stitch patterns, and works well for colourwork too. While not as soft as a superwash merino, it’s wearable next to the skin for many people and is great for sweaters, shawls, mittens, and other accessories.

Gavotte is eligible for our tiered sweater quantity discounts. Don't forget to use one of the following codes at checkout to receive your discount:

  • SWEATER10 for 10% off 5 skeins or more
  • SWEATER15 for 15% off 7 skeins or more
  • SWEATER20 for 20% off 10 skeins or more

Projects in Gavotte

We thought it would be nice to share some project ideas for Gavotte, so earlier this spring we reached out to members of our Preview Knitting Program to see if anyone wanted to "test-drive" the yarn. Here are the projects they worked on!

Fleurs nordiques

knit by Geneviève

Geneviève adapted the Nordic Bloom pattern to work with Gavotte and the results are stunning!

Nordic Bloom is knit in the round from the bottom-up and then steeked to create a vest. The pattern is inspired by bold floral motifs common in Scandinavian design and the fit is intended to be oversized and comfortable for all.

Pattern: Nordic Bloom vest by Caitlin Hunter, available in Laine Nordic Knits and through boylandknitworks.com
Sizes: 37.25-72.25" / 94.5-183.5 cm finished chest circumference
Yarn:
Sweet Paprika Gavotte, 3 skeins in Brick, 1 skein Natural (for size 2)

Luffe mittens

knit by Janet

Janet knit not one, but two pairs of Luffe mittens using two colours of Gavotte. She plans to line each pair with a vibrant contrasting colour for an extra layer of warmth.

Luffe may look like an ordinary mitten but it has a unique thumb gusset that perfectly matches the anatomy of the hand.

Pattern: Luffe by Lone Kjeldsen, available on Ravelry
Yarn:
Sweet Paprika Gavotte, 1 skein for each pair in Nightshade and Lagoon

Lumme pullover

knit by Winnie

Winnie was ambitious and knit the Lumme pullover, a beautiful colourwork sweater!

The Lumme pullover is worked seamlessly from the top-down with the yoke increases incorporated into the stranded colourwork pattern.

Pattern: Lumme pullover by Sari Nordlund, available on sarinordlund.com and Ravelry
Sizes: 31.5-63" / 80-160 cm finished chest circumference
Yarn:
Sweet Paprika Gavotte, 5 skeins Denim, 1 skein Goldenrod (for size 5)
Winnie's Ravelry project page: https://www.ravelry.com/projects/wenns/lumme-pullover

Satie Shawl

knit by Emma

Emma found that the Satie shawl pattern was a good match for Gavotte, with the high stitch definition of the yarn showing off the textured stitch patterns well.

Satie is big cozy shawl, knit from the top down in a combination of textured lace and garter stitch with two size options.

Pattern: Satie by Dee O'Keefe, available on deeokeefedesigns.com and Ravelry
Yarn:
Sweet Paprika Gavotte, 4 skeins in Nightshade (for the large size)
