Learn Double Knitting

Double knitting combines knit and purl stitches to create a two-layered, double-sided stockinette fabric. Using two colours of yarn makes it possible to create graphic colourwork patterns, accompanied by a mirrored image on the other side of the fabric.

If you'd like to learn double knitting, this Skill Builder Box is just for you! We've collaborated with with Duke Akiba (aka Duke of Nikko), who created the Feathered Arrow Scarf pattern specifically for learning double knitting. The feathered arrow motif is a traditional design in Japan, often used in kimono and other garments. The arrow shape symbolizes progress, aspiration and prosperity.

Your Double Knitting box will include two packets:

  • Part 1 will include enough pre-wound yarn to jump in and start knitting some practice swatches right away, and links to the photo and video tutorials to guide you in your explorations.
  • Part 2 will include the link to download the Feathered Arrow scarf pattern by Duke of Nikko, and two skeins of our Gavotte worsted weight hand-dyed yarn.

Debbie and Elizabeth will be your guides as you explore double knitting, and you'll be invited to join our private online discussion group where you can ask any questions you might have and share photos of your project!
