Our yarn for this month is a soft and resilient 2-ply sport weight, spun at Long Way Homestead Mill in Manitoba, Canada. The fleeces come from a small farm in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan.
Targhee sheep are a newer breed of sheep, developed in the US starting in the 1920s. The breeding program started with Rambouillet, Lincoln, and Corriedale, combining the characteristics of fine-wool sheep with a long-wool breed (Lincoln).
While this yarn is not a superfine merino, it is soft enough to wear next to the skin for many people. It has a slightly uneven texture with some slubs that add a bit of texture to your fabric. This yarn would be lovely for lace, intarsia or short-row colourwork. It also felts quite easily!
Notes
"Summer Skies" was this month's cool colour option, "Carnation" was the warm option, and "Wicker" was the neutral option. We had quite a bit of yarn left, so we added some extra colours for fun!
We ended up with 2 batches of yarn from the mill. Batch A which was sent in the club boxes has slightly more yardage per skein than batch B. They are similar enough that it shouldn't be a problem to combine them in a project, but you'll want to check the yardage when planning you much yarn you'll need.
