Blacker Yarns/Fowlescombe Farm Manx Loaghtan - Worsted Weight (limited edition)

Our third yarn for the 2025 edition of the Beyond Merino club is a wonderful Manx Loaghtan worsted weight that we purchased from Blacker Yarns, who source their fleeces from Fowlescombe Farm in Devon, UK.

Manx Loaghtan sheep are a rare heritage breed within the Northern European short-tailed family (which includes Shetland and Icelandic). One of their defining characteristics is the beautiful warm brown colour of their fleece.

This yarn is a 3-ply woolen-spun worsted weight. We found there was some variation in the yardage per 100g skein, so have listed the yardage on the lower end to be on the safe side when planning projects. The yarn was lovely to work with with a nice range of gauges. It knit up to a dense sturdy fabric on 3.75mm needles and a nice stretchy fabric on 5mm needles.

Notes

"Aquan" was this month's cool colour option, "Dark Bloom" was the warm option, and "Nocturne" was the dark option.
