Learn to knit Cables

Cables are textured knitting motifs that often have the appearance of ropes or knots. They’re created by working stitches out of order, creating a twist in the knitted fabric.

If you'd like to learn to knit cables, this Skill Builder Box is just for you! We've collaborated with with Fatimah Hinds (aka Disturbing the Fleece), who created the If You Give a Mouse a Cable sock pattern specifically for learning cables. These socks are worked from the toe up with an afterthought heel and are knit in DK or sport weight yarn, so they’ll work up quickly. The charming mis-matched stripe pattern adds a little flair to these socks, but you could knit them in matching stripes if you prefer.

Your Cable box will include two packets:

  • Part 1 will include enough pre-wound yarn to jump in and start knitting some practice swatches right away, and links to the photo and video tutorials to guide you in your explorations.
  • Part 2 will include the link to download the If You Give a Mouse a Cable pattern by Fatimah Hinds (Disturbing the Fleece), and two skeins of either our Cadenza sport weight or Minuet DK weight hand-dyed yarn.

Fatimah, Debbie and Elizabeth will be your guides as you explore cable knitting, and you'll be invited to join our private online discussion group where you can ask any questions you might have and share photos of your project!
