Accomplishments of the Week - May 19, 2018

With two young kids at home, it often feels like I run around all week and never get anything done. So... this is my effort to reflect on the week and celebrate successes both large and small, knitting-related or not.

Accomplishment #1

I made good progress on my Meandering Pathway Shawl (shown above). I love that the rows are getting shorter rather than longer so it feels like I'm knitting faster the further into it I get.

Accomplishment #2

I taught a geography lesson on Hungary to a group of young homeschoolers and showed off some of my Hungarian/Transylvanian textiles. The colouring sheets based on traditional Kalocsai embroidery patterns were a hit!

Accomplishment #3

I grafted the toe and blocked my Wayfaring Stranger sock. My quick phone photos don't do this colour justice I'm afraid. It's the Tree Frog colourway of our Pizzicato yarn and I love it so much that I knit THREE socks with one skein. The first two got donated to Dans La Rue during our Socktober KAL and this singleton will get added to our sample box to bring to festivals and trunk shows.

Accomplishment #4

Not knitting or yarn related, but we booked our plane tickets and accommodation for Hong Kong!!! I've been dreaming about this trip since Christmas and the whole family is so excited that it's turning into reality.

I really love baking bread at home, and I actually rarely buy any bread products except bagels (and croissants when I'm feeling indulgent). But with the crazy heat we had all summer I got out of the habit of baking, and until last week I hadn't made bread since last spring. I like using the method from the Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day cookbook. In reality it does take a few more than five minutes, but once you've got a routine going and have the dough stored in your fridge it really is pretty easy to whip up a fresh loaf whenever you feel like it.

I've spent the past week sketching and swatching many, many cable patterns for a new design I'm working on. I love this part of the design process and usually have way more ideas than I can fit in one project, so I often end up with tons of swatches.

Patterns for Presto!
Patterns for Presto!

by Debbie Sullivan September 17, 2018

Our bulky-weight Presto yarn is a great choice for a quick and gratifying fall project, and we're really excited to announce the publication of four new patterns using this yarn.

We sent a skein of Presto each to three different indie designers at the beginning of the summer, and they've all come up with great ways to use this soft and squishy yarn. In fact, we were so inspired by their patterns that Elizabeth decided to add a design of her own to the collection!
