Meandering Pathway Shawl WIP

With two young kids at home, it often feels like I run around all week and never get anything done. So... this is my effort to reflect on the week and celebrate successes both large and small, knitting-related or not.

Accomplishment #1

I made good progress on my Meandering Pathway Shawl (shown above). I love that the rows are getting shorter rather than longer so it feels like I'm knitting faster the further into it I get.

Accomplishment #2

I taught a geography lesson on Hungary to a group of young homeschoolers and showed off some of my Hungarian/Transylvanian textiles. The colouring sheets based on traditional Kalocsai embroidery patterns were a hit!

Accomplishment #3

I grafted the toe and blocked my Wayfaring Stranger sock. My quick phone photos don't do this colour justice I'm afraid. It's the Tree Frog colourway of our Pizzicato yarn and I love it so much that I knit THREE socks with one skein. The first two got donated to Dans La Rue during our Socktober KAL and this singleton will get added to our sample box to bring to festivals and trunk shows.

Accomplishment #4

Not knitting or yarn related, but we booked our plane tickets and accommodation for Hong Kong!!! I've been dreaming about this trip since Christmas and the whole family is so excited that it's turning into reality.

We first met Catherine Knutsson, our collaborator on the Beyond Merino yarn club, when she organized the Great Canadian Wool-Along last summer as a way to celebrate crafting with local materials and supporting Canadian wool farmers. We loved the concept of the wool-along, and jumped at the chance to connect with a community of Canadian wool-lovers.

Fifteen Years of Sweet Paprika!
Fifteen Years of Sweet Paprika!

This year we're celebrating Sweet Paprika's 15th anniversary, and it's honestly been a bit hard to get my head around where the time has gone! We've been looking back through some of our old photos, and thought it would be fun to share a little retrospective here. Our little business has come a long way in the past 15 years!

Most of the images I'm including are not our polished product photos (although those have also come a long way since the early days), but more of a behind-the-scenes look at some of the memorable stepping stones along our journey.

"Year of Gnomes" Contest: Help Us Gname a Gnome!

by Debbie Sullivan February 23, 2022 36 Comments

Last December, just as we were shutting down the dye studio for a holiday break, we got an email from one of our favourite customers telling us all about an upcoming event we might want to look into: the Year of Gnomes Knit-Along. We loved the idea, and couldn’t resist joining in by dyeing up some mini-skein Gnome Sets for you to play with. We ordered in some special yarn as soon as we got back to work in January, and our Gnome Sets are now ready to head on out into the world!
