Meandering Pathway Shawl WIP

With two young kids at home, it often feels like I run around all week and never get anything done. So... this is my effort to reflect on the week and celebrate successes both large and small, knitting-related or not.

Accomplishment #1

I made good progress on my Meandering Pathway Shawl (shown above). I love that the rows are getting shorter rather than longer so it feels like I'm knitting faster the further into it I get.

Accomplishment #2

I taught a geography lesson on Hungary to a group of young homeschoolers and showed off some of my Hungarian/Transylvanian textiles. The colouring sheets based on traditional Kalocsai embroidery patterns were a hit!

Accomplishment #3

I grafted the toe and blocked my Wayfaring Stranger sock. My quick phone photos don't do this colour justice I'm afraid. It's the Tree Frog colourway of our Pizzicato yarn and I love it so much that I knit THREE socks with one skein. The first two got donated to Dans La Rue during our Socktober KAL and this singleton will get added to our sample box to bring to festivals and trunk shows.

Accomplishment #4

Not knitting or yarn related, but we booked our plane tickets and accommodation for Hong Kong!!! I've been dreaming about this trip since Christmas and the whole family is so excited that it's turning into reality.

One month ago, I found myself in the emergency room with unbearable back pain. I later learned it was caused by a herniated disc and osteoarthritis (OA) that had taken over my entire lower back. Would I ever be able to dye yarn again, let alone... knit...?

What do you do when you have a glut of watermelon? Freeze it and make watermelon slushie! I started doing this last summer and it's the perfect way to use up a watermelon, especially one that's a bit overripe. Plus, with a touch of lime and mint it really hits the spot on a hot day!
