It's only the middle of July, and we've already had some significant heat waves here in Montreal this year, so I've been swapping out my normal afternoon pick-me-up of a hot black tea for iced tea instead. I've recently discovered this simple method for making my iced tea using green tea instead of black and I've been making it so often that I thought I should share the recipe

Even though I've been trying to eat mostly healthy snacks recently, sometimes it's nice to have a bit of a treat. Since our Nousrire orders have included lots of dried chickpeas lately, as well as chocolate chips, peanut butter and dried fruit and nuts, we pretty much always have the ingredients for these cookies at hand. I like this recipe because it's relatively low in sugar, has the added protein from the chickpeas and nut butter, and is quick and easy to throw together (it's also gluten-free if that's important for you). I often make a double batch and freeze half - mostly to keep us from eating them all at once!
It's no secret that I love tea - which I think pairs perfectly with knitting! Most of the time I drink regular old orange pekoe, or roiboos if I don't want the caffeine, but a cup of chai is always a nice treat and changes things up a little bit.
Working in the dye studio can be pretty physically demanding - I'm on my feet all day, slinging around heavy dye pots full of wet wool. So I try to make sure I bring lots of good snacks to the studio with me to keep my energy up throughout the day. Today would have been our Grandma Dorner's 90th birthday. To celebrate the occasion and to remember her, I spent the afternoon baking this cake with my son. Although Grandma made Diós (walnut) Torte for most Dorner birthdays when I was a kid, this banana cake is one of her recipes that sticks out most in my memories of spending time at my grandparents' house, because it was more of an everyday cake that she would often have on hand when we went over for a visit. One of the best things about fall is fresh cranberries. I use them in bread, muffins, smoothies, and applesauce, but this cranberry scone recipe is a particular favourite.
Breakfast at my house is usually granola and yogurt or toast and peanut butter, but a couple of weeks and I had family visiting so I got up early to make these scones for everyone. They are also delicious with a cup of tea in the afternoon if you're not a morning person!
These muffins are a great way to use up pears if you find yourself with extra, or if they ripen a bit too much before you get to eating them. They also work well with apples if you don't happen to have pears around.
