Gift-along 2018

Gift-along 2018

by Elizabeth Sullivan December 13, 2018

This is the fifth year that Debbie and I have been involved in the Indie Design Gift-along on Ravelry as both designers and participants. It's a fun event and it’s a chance for us to take a little vacation from designing ourselves, support our fellow designers by working from their patterns, make connections with knitters and crocheters around the world, and maybe finish off a gift or two or three.

Patterns for Presto!

Patterns for Presto!

by Debbie Sullivan September 17, 2018

Our bulky-weight Presto yarn is a great choice for a quick and gratifying fall project, and we're really excited to announce the publication of four new patterns using this yarn.

We sent a skein of Presto each to three different indie designers at the beginning of the summer, and they've all come up with great ways to use this soft and squishy yarn. In fact, we were so inspired by their patterns that Elizabeth decided to add a design of her own to the collection!

Accomplishments of the Week - June 10, 2018

by Elizabeth Sullivan June 11, 2018 1 Comment

This past week has been a tough one: teething baby, husband with a week-long migraine, preparing to move house in 3 weeks... The thing that's kept me going through the stressful week has been my knitting. I'm working on a new sock pattern using Pizzicato in the Palestra colourway to be released next month.

Pattern Round-up: Finger Puppets!

Pattern Round-up: Finger Puppets!

by Debbie Sullivan September 20, 2016 1 Comment

A couple of weeks ago, Elizabeth sent me a link to this CBC article about a children's hospital in Nova Scotia looking for donations of hand-knit finger puppets. It was just before our September knitting tea, and I was inspired to quickly print off the patterns provided by the IWK Health Centre and gather some scrap yarn to make a puppet or two.

Book Review: Modern Baby Knits

Book Review: Modern Baby Knits

by Debbie Sullivan July 18, 2016

In the most recent batch of books that we were sent for review from Interweave was a copy of Modern Baby Knits by Tanis Gray. I jumped on this one because I seem to have a lot of friends expecting little ones these days, and was in the market for some fresh ideas for baby gifts. The introduction promises designs that are "easy to knit and have fuss-free finishing, bright colors, easy-care fibers, and modern silhouettes" and the patterns following it definitely live up to this statement.

I am so thrilled to share some photos with you of Victoria, one of the patterns from Jennifer Wood's upcoming book Refined Knits. Not only is this design beautiful and exactly my style, it's knit in our very own Messa di Voce yarn in Chimney Smoke!

Kith & Kin designer interview: Sabrina Miller

Kith & Kin designer interview: Sabrina Miller

by Elizabeth Sullivan November 27, 2015

Last (but certainly not least!) in our series of interviews with the designers from our Kith & Kin Collection is Sabrina Miller, designer of the wonderful Chili Powder Mittens.

Sabrina is a friend of ours here in Montreal and, although she does have tons of design experience from her work as a set and costume designer, I'm proud to say that this was her first-ever published knitting pattern!

Kith & Kin designer interview: Thorn Maiden Designs

by Elizabeth Sullivan November 25, 2015

Next up in our series of blog interviews is Rachel Anderson from Ireland, designer of the Blue Skies and Butterflies mittens.

Rachel originally planned to offer these mittens in two sizes, but when I asked her if she could expand the size range from child to adult, she more than rose to the challenge and sent us a pattern with 8 sizes to fit everyone from toddlers to men's extra large!

Indie Design Gift-a-Long: Hidden gems

Indie Design Gift-a-Long: Hidden gems

by Elizabeth Sullivan November 24, 2015

I've spent far too long over the past few days looking at some of the 5000+ patterns that are discounted as part of this year's Ravelry Indie Design Gift-a-Long. One of my favourite aspects of the gift-a-long is the way the indie design community comes together to support each other and our work as indie designers. This is a time of year when many of us take time off from our "work" knitting to knit each others designs as "fun" knitting. With this in mind, I wanted to search out some hidden gems. Patterns that I think haven't received as much attention as they deserve. Enjoy!

Kith & Kin designer interview: Marie Godsey

by Elizabeth Sullivan November 22, 2015

Marie Godsey from Long Island, NY is the designer of the Rue Le Moyne mittens from the Kith & Kin collection. I think these are a great stash-busting pattern and the perpendicular stripes on the cuff add a fun twist to the classic striped mitten.

Kith & Kin designer interview: Valeria Kerkkä

by Elizabeth Sullivan November 14, 2015

Next up in our series of blog interviews is Valeria Kerkkä from Finland. Valeria designed the beautiful Quatrefoil mittens which I absolutely adore. I particularly like the fact that there are two similar but different patterns - one on the back of the mitten and one on the front. Our model also loved these mittens so I'm currently knitting her a pair as a thank you for modeling for us.

Kith & Kin designer interview: Joan Beebe

Kith & Kin designer interview: Joan Beebe

by Elizabeth Sullivan November 12, 2015

The second in our series of blog interviews is with Joan Beebe from North Carolina. Joan designed the Macon Mittens for our collection and was kind enough to knit two samples for us: one adult and one toddler size.

This design really caught my eye with combination of Latvian Braids and cables and my toddler could not wait to try them on when the samples arrived in the mail!
